Men of God in the City of Man, Part 8: Zoonosis

A narrative built on empty ritual persisted after its central promise collapsed. When the prophecy failed to materialize in reality, those who had staked their identity on it didn't abandon it. Instead, they found new reasons why the belief system remained true, while others began to attach their own agendas to the same framework of conviction. What started as a contained story about election fraud became something far larger and more distributed.

•        A community of prophets had built their credibility on being right about a specific outcome. When that outcome didn't happen, the narrative didn't break. It adapted. Rather than recognizing a failed prediction, apostles and prophets reinterpreted their words to fit new circumstances, finding fresh evidence of hidden plots and delayed triumphs. Each reinterpretation reinforced rather than weakened their authority.

•        The movement began systematically amplifying every claim of electoral fraud, no matter how dubious or easily disproven. On platforms like Flashpoint and through major charismatic media clearinghouses, prophetic voices repeated verbatim the fraud allegations circulated by Trump's legal team and allies. This wasn't discernment. It was mechanistic retransmission without verification or hesitation.

•        What had been contained within a religious community of believers began leaking outward into broader political movements. The narrative that had animated prayer services and prophetic decrees started merging with secular conspiracy theories and political action. The boundary between spiritual warfare language and actual calls for political intervention blurred beyond recognition.

•        A different species of narrative virus, one already circulating in conspiracy theory communities, discovered it shared nearly identical memetic DNA with the election fraud prophecy framework. Both relied on hidden cabals, faithful remnants, promised exposures, and the language of sudden reversals. The overlap was so complete that transmission became inevitable. The gap between QAnon symbolism and prophetic language simply closed.

•        When the military coup never came and the reinstatement never happened, the narrative didn't die. It metastasized into a permanent feature of how millions of people now understand American politics and faith. The story that failed to produce its promised outcome instead produced something more durable: a framework that could accommodate any event, explain any delay, and justify whatever comes next. It had become unfalsifiable.
