Rick Lake

Contributor

Rick Lake is an irregular polygon. He is founder of Narrative Alpha, a consulting practice that helps alternative investment managers close the gap between complex strategies and stories that move capital.

Rick co-founded Lake Partners, one of the early hedge fund consulting firms, scaling it from a used plywood desk to over $5 billion in advisory assets. He helped create one of the first liquid alternative mutual funds and trademarked "Democratization of Hedge Funds" in 2000.

Rick holds a degree in Folklore & Mythology from Harvard — surprisingly relevant to understanding how large language models compose text.

He has lectured on digital strategy and AI in asset management at Boston University's Questrom School of Business, and will lead a symposium on AI in asset management at Stevens Institute of Technology in May 2026.

A former competitive Ballroom & Latin dancer, Rick has performed at the Kremlin and is an award-winning musical theatre writer.
