The machinery for turning any event into proof of existential tribal conflict now operates in hours instead of days. Two perfectly reasonable people watch the same video and walk away with completely opposite understandings of what they saw. The gap between what happened and what we collectively believe happened has collapsed into something invisible.

• The same video produces opposite conclusions. Within 24 hours, intelligent observers had split into two completely separate narrative clusters, each with distinct language and framings. More information didn't narrow the gap; it just gave each side more ammunition.

• Facts get absorbed before they arrive. Media language patterns show 74% of initial coverage used charged words like "mock" and "taunt." By the time fuller context emerged, the narrative had already crystallized into tribal symbols, not descriptions of events.

• The speed has become the story. What used to take days to turn an event into existential meaning now happens in hours. The machinery is so optimized that observers get pulled into competing "Greater Truths" before they can think.

• Both sides feel their fears are real. One side sees institutionalized threats to marginalized people. The other sees unchecked cultural power wielded by hostile elites. These aren't equivalent, but they're both experienced as existential, which is what matters for the gyre.

• Independent judgment has become nearly impossible. The cost of remaining uncertain or withholding judgment includes being accused of complicity or passivity. The pressure to choose a narrative fast creates conditions where clear-eyed observation seems impossible.
