The US market is pricing in fiscal policy as if it doesn't exist. Financial media publishes articles about budget deficits and articles about markets, but they speak in completely different languages. Record government spending sits at the center of policy discussions while market narratives orbit at a distance, with zero linguistic connection between them.
- Market narratives and fiscal policy operate in separate universes. Financial articles use the phrase "fiscal policy" but discuss something else entirely. Articles about markets and articles about Democratic spending proposals are as linguistically disconnected as possible, despite sharing keyword overlap.
- The market is structurally unprepared for fiscal policy to matter. When fiscal proposals become real policy, they will surprise the market because no one in financial media has been building a coherent story connecting them to asset prices.
- The absence of narrative is itself the signal. In normal markets, major policy shifts generate discussion, debate, and connection to returns. The silence here is not neutral. It reveals complacency about what is actually being proposed.
- A credible candidate with a major fiscal agenda would hit a market with no existing framework for pricing it in.The market has built no expectations, no hedges, and no story to explain how these policies move returns. That's the dangerous position.
- The question is not whether fiscal policy will eventually move markets, but whether the market will be ready when it does. The longer this narrative disconnect persists, the larger the gap between what's being priced and what's coming.
